Super Santa Fe

June 10, 2009

Welcome to my first blog.

Today I am in Santa Fe with another great group of gals.  This was our day to visit the charming pilgrimage town of Chimayo.  There is really not much to the town but the little church so often photographed. Stepping inside you hear the doves cooing in the 2 bell towers.  The walls are lined with crutches of people who have been cured by the miraculous healing dirt.  This is also the home of the wonderful Chimayo chilies.

Our next stop was at Centinilla, the shop of one of the Chimayo weaving families.  Ervin and Lisa Trujillo are doing incredible work in many differing styles.

From there we went on to Taos and the San Francisco church made notable by being painted by Georgia O'Keeffe and photographed by Ansel Adams.  It was a little messy as they had just re-adobed it and it had rained in the night. We had to step cautiously to avoid the very muddy puddles.

After a tasty lunch we drove over the Rio Grande Gorge and to the Millecent Rogers Museum.  Apparently if you are a Standard Oil heiress  you can afford to collect world class Indian art and live an exotic life of entertaining the likes of DH Lawrence.  You can become a fashion icon and design clothing and jewelry as well.  The thousands of items are nicely displayed with good explanations.  It is well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Our final dinner together at Santacafe left us stuffed but begging for more.  We laughed til we almost burst, sharing good stories and good times.  Vaya con DIos.
