Minimum 8 guests, maximum 20. 

A $500 nonrefundable deposit will secure a reservation. Itinerary subject to change as needed. Any substitutions would be of equal value. No refunds for missed activities. Payments made by credit card accrue a 3.5% fee. All guests must be able to ascend and descend uneven steps without railings, walk intermediate distances on irregular surfaces, and embark and disembark buses and boats independently. Dietary restrictions may not be able to be accommodated. Final payment due July 15, 2022.

Wednesday, September 28

Porto Saúde -our journey begins! A short walking tour of Porto will orient you before a light dinner. (D)

 

Thursday, September 29

Explore more of this beautiful city before we are off to the beach for a special late lunch at O Gaveto, where fresh fish and seafood take center stage for a blockbuster performance. (B,L)

 

Friday, September 30

Wander the hills of Porto this morning before we cross the famed Gustave Eiffel-designed bridge to Graham's and the land of Port. Our guided tasting is amid Graham's 15,000 casks. Dinner is at Vinum, Graham's new restaurant dedicated to the marriage of food and wines. (B,D)

 

Saturday, October 1

Charming Guimaraes is the cradle of Portugal. After a walk through this bucolic town, we lunch at the spectacular Sao Giao. (B,L)

Our afternoon break will be at a bakery preparing the famous regional sweet pastries. Then we are on to Duoro and Quinta de Ventozelo. It is the most impressive and beautiful quinta of the area. "Quinta" is the word for a wine-growing estate and this one is a stunner with an infinity pool and gorgeous grounds where time moves slowly, and nature takes charge. We will enjoy a light dinner there. (B,L,D)      

 

Sunday, October 2

No visit to the Douro is complete without a cruise down the river in a traditional Rabelo boat that historically carried barrels of Port wine. Bon voyage!

At Quinta de Tourais we are welcomed by the Coelho family for a cooking lesson and wine tasting. The Port here does not disappoint. You will feel like family as we sit down to enjoy a lavish lunch. Upon returning to hotel Quinta de Ventozelo, you can soak up some quiet time, possibly observe some harvest activities, walk, or relax by the pool. (B,L)

 

Monday, October 3 

How many cork factories have you visited? Amorim is the largest cork company in the world. You will not look at your wine bottle the same after this field trip. It is a highlight. Live like a king and queen as we head to the Palace of the Portuguese royalty, Palace Hotel do Bussaco. It's one of the most beautiful and historic properties in the world and we get to spend the night. Our lunch here is set to be memorable and a visit to their winery and tasting rounds out this remarkable day. (B,L)

 

Tuesday, October 4

Do you love bubbles? Most people don't think of Portugal for sparkling wines, but there is delicious fizz here. The Caves de Sao Joao introduces us to the production of sparkling wines they have specialized in for 100 years. A very special lunch at Quinta das Bageiras features leitao - suckling pig cooked in a wood oven. The "master of hospitality" here leads our tasting of his wines made to express their terroir.

Enjoy a short sesta as we make our way to Lisbon. (B,L)

Wednesday, October 5

A city tour introduces the main tourist attractions of Lisbon - Monument of Discoveries, Belém Tower, and a panoramic view. Our afternoon snack stop is for some dreamy Pasteis de Nata custard confections.

Lunch at restaurant Taberna Albricoque.

Dinner at Adega Machado, one of the best fado houses in Lisbon. To listen to fado is to understand the soul of the Portuguese. The words are foreign by the sentiment is haunting. (B,L,D)

 

Thursday, October 6

First stop is the Livramento Market in Setabal. It is considered one of the most famous and beautiful fish markets of the world with its 5,700 Portuguese tiles. 

In beautiful through Serra da Serra da Arrábida to Azeitão, the land of the best cheeses. We will meet one of the most respected wine producers in the country, where muscatels are produced.

Lunch is at chef Paulo Ferreira’s Cas das Tortas. (B,L)

 

Friday, October 7 

Wine tasting at Adega Regional de Colares is a good start for the day, followed by an amazing lunch of Portuguese cuisine with an elegant and refined atmosphere at Incomum. This contemporary and relaxed, welcoming space is a perfect end of our time together. The evening is free to pack up your treasures for departure tomorrow. (B,L)

Obrigado – our adventures end but the memories never do.
