"The only man I envy is the man who has not seen Africa - for he has so much to look forward to."
Rich Mullins
Africa comes with a dose of magic that transforms souls and changes people from the inside out. It cannot be washed away.
Beginning in Cape Town we have an introduction to the things that make this such an appealing city. Table Mountain looms over the city and Robbin Island (Mandela’s prison) lies offshore. Penguins nest in the sands of Cape of Good Hope and ostriches roam the dunes. Seals swim in the water and all is right with the world. We will start at a slow pace to allow you to settle in. We take time to include a day in the Wine Lands region of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek for a taste of the important South African wine industry. Afterall, it is the 7 th largest wine producer in the world. What do you know about Pinotage?
Our animal viewing takes place in 2 different countries. Kruger National Park, in South Africa, and Chobe National Park, in Botswana. Between them you will come to know cape buffalos, elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, elands, steenboks, leopards, hyenas, and many other species roaming free. You are along for the wildest ride of your life.
Moving on to the Zambian side of Victoria Falls offers new drama. The magnificent
natural wonder is just outside our door. A sunset cruise on the Zambezi River is a
highlight for certain. From there is where our Chobe visit originates. That safari day is
special because part of it takes place on the water. The hippos and crocodiles are
highlights but it is also a birdwatcher’s paradise. Will you spot the Jesus birds that seem walk on water? We reach the end of our journey in Johannesburg, the largest city of the country. There is time for the Apartheid Museum, to learn the story of Hector Pieterson, and visit the Mandela home. You will come away from Africa a changed person with an album of photos worthy of National Geographic, an expanded brain, and a full heart.

ITINERARY
August 17-22 CAPE TOWN
Cape Town is a beautiful city. Our hotel is on the V&A Waterfront, with easy access to restaurants and shops. Our days are spent with a full day trips to the Cape of GoodHope Peninsula, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a wine tasting, Boulder Beach, and the winelands. Table Mountain, the historical sites include Robben Island (where Mandela was imprisoned), and a township visit round out the days. Cape Town is full of world class dining opportunities. A fun food walk gives us a taste of the diverse local fare.
August 22-25 KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
Our departure is early this morning to accommodate a very special stop, enroute to Lukimbi Lodge. Chimp Eden, Jane Goodall’s primate rescue center provides a glimpse into the stellar efforts that they are expending to rescue and study these brilliant animals.
Our safari accommodations are set along the Lwakahle River, just the right spot to sit and watch for wildlife. It is one of only 7 private concessions within Kruger National Park surrounded by Cape buffalo, leopards (my personal favorite), elephants, elands, hyenas, baboons, and families of lions. Keep your binoculars at hand. The food is hearty, with dinner around the boma fire. Three homecooked meals each day fuel you for the two game drives a day, a daily bush walk, the swimming pool, spa, and fitness room. It is early to bed and early to rise on safari. Accommodations are in Classic Suites.
August 25-28 VICTORIA FALLS, ZAMBIA
The thrill of the exhilarating, mist laden thunder of Victoria Falls is a short stroll which also passes the market of artisans on the way to the shore. Stay vigilant for the monkeys and zebra on the hotel grounds of the Avani. A favorite offering in Zambia is a sunset cruise on the Zambezi. It beats any Disneyland Jungle ride by a mile! From here we visit into Chobe National Park of Botswana. The first half of the day is on the water searching for hippos, butterflies, birds, and crocs. After lunch we board vehicles to keep an eye out for elephants, lions, and giraffes. You do not need a visa to enter Zambia, but you will need one to depart ($50).

August 28-30 JOHANNESBURG
The important sites of Johannesburg are included in our private touring by air-conditioned vehicle - Soweto township and the Apartheid Museum. Flights home should be scheduled on 8/31 from JNB.
