Wildlife, waterfalls, and why not wine
SECOND EDITION
AFRICA

Africa comes with a dose of magic that transforms souls and changes people from the inside out. It cannot be washed away.
Beginning in South Africas largest city, Johannesburg, we explore its urban richness. From there we move to the Zambian side of Victoria falls. The magnificent falls is just outside our door. A sunset cruise on the Zambezi River is a highlight for certain.
With the charm of the Avani Hotel as our base, we venture into Botswana for a day of safari by land and water. You are pretty sure to see your first giraffes, hippos, and Jesus birds or lily walkers, who seem to walk on water.
Now that your binoculars are focused, we are off to Kruger National Park for more serious game viewing. This is where the cape buffalos, elephants, rhinos, lions, elands, steenboks, and leopards roam free and you are along for the ride.
The buzz of Cape Town calls us away from the animals and into its grasp. Table Mountain looms over the city and Robbin Island (Mandela’s prison) lies offshore. Penguins nest in the sands of Cape of Good Hope and ostriches roam the dunes. Seals swim in the water and all is right with the world. A visit to a township brings us back to the modern history of this changing country.

WONDERFUL WINELANDS

$1600 per person double occupancy
$650 single supplement

Wine lovers unite for a 3 night stay in the Franschhoek/Stellenbosch region, with 2 days of private touring some of the best wineries on the continent. Dutch roots run deep in this area. The wines of the area are excellent. Featuring Pinotage, shiraz, and chenin blanc. South Africa is the seventh largest producer of wine in the world. The settings of the wineries are beautiful and so are the wines. Come see how wine is made on the bottom of the globe.
Between tastings we will take a dose of art, in the form of sculptures at the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden. To satisfy the need for some history we offer the Stellenbosch Museum and Taal Monument. Our home for 3 nights is the 5 Star Franschhoek Hotel and Spa. What possibilities are you able to conjure for that?

ITINERARY
Sept 1-3 Johannesburg
The important sites to visit are included in our private touring in air-conditioned vehicles–Nelson Mandela
’s house, the Hector Pieterson Memorial, the Apartheid Museum, and the township of Soweto. There is much to learn about the background of South Africa, and Johannesburg is the perfect entry point for that.

September 3-6 Victoria Falls, Zambia
The thrill of the exhilarating, mist laden thunder of Victoria Falls is a short stroll which also passes the market of artisans on the way to the shore. Stay vigilant for the monkeys and zebras on the hotel grounds of the Avani. A favorite offering in Zambia is a sunset cruise on the Zambezi. It beats any Disneyland Jungle ride by a mile! From here we drop into Chobe National Park of Botswana for our first safari. The first half of the day is on the water searching for hippos, butterflies, birds, and crocs. After lunch we board vehicles to keep an eye out for elephants, lions, and giraffes. You do not need a visa to enter Zambia but you will need one to depart ($50).

September 6-9 Sabi Sands, South Africa safari lodge
Our safari accommodations are set on a watering hole. Just the right spot to sit and watch for wildlife. The property has been cared for by the same family for 57 years. You will feel like family too. It borders the unfenced Kruger National Park and is home to Cape buffalo, leopards (my personal favorite), elephants, elands, hyenas, baboons, and families of lions. Keep your binoculars at hand. The food is hearty, with dinner around the boma fire. Three homecooked meals each day fuel you for the two game drives a day, 1 bush walk, 2 swimming pools, and fitness room.

September 9-12 Cape Town
Cape Town is a beautiful city reminiscent of Sydney, Australia. Our hotel is on the V&A Waterfront, with easy access to restaurants and shops. Our days are spent with a full day trip to the Cape of Good Hope Peninsula, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, a wine tasting, and Boulder Beach. The historical sites include Robben Island, and a township visit. Cape Town is full of world class dinning opportunities. We are set to savor a special farewell dinner at Spyced. Count the 14 spice infused courses.

September 12-15 Departures OR Winelands Franschhoek
A single private group transfer to CPT is for those how must depart today. Those staying will take the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway for the breathtaking views and the fascinating ecosystem at the top. From there we begin our private wine explorations
with a private guide. There are 2 more full days of winery visits alongside cultural and historical visits. Spring will be busting out all over, in the southern hemisphere, at this time of the year.
