All Roads Lead to Rome

All Appetites Lead to Puglia

ITALY

food&wine logo

All roads lead to Rome and it is a worthy destination. Arguably The Eternal City is the grandest capital in the world. Its classical and sacred impacts are unequalled. But Italy is more than Rome. To do the country justice, you must leave of the urban bustle to find the remarkable broader stories. Puglia (Poo’ Lee Uh) is a rather well kept secret that beautifully exemplifies those.

Rome is where we begin with exploring the aspects of the city. From the Colosseum, Pantheon, and Forum to the contrasting Vatican Museum, St Peter’s Basilica, and the Sistine Chapel its best of both worlds are on view for us.

But the tiny towns, beautiful beaches, and fine food combine to make the Italian region of Puglia a winner. Off the beaten tourist track, charming and delighting its guests, this is a delicious, quiet and authentic piece of Italy. It is the heel of the boot and plays second fiddle to no one. You will fall in love with the lower right corner of Italy.

Sunshine, ancient history, impressive architecture, warm people, and good company make your dreams of Italy come true. This is exactly how it was meant to be enjoyed.

ITINERARY

18-21 September - ROME

Enjoy a day for relaxation as you slip into La Dolce Vita. We meet our warm and wonderful private guide for an introductory dinner in a popular local restaurant,

There is time tomorrow and the next day for our tours of the Classical and Sacred aspects of Rome. The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona (for the requisite ice cream treat Tartufo) fill the morning. The Colosseum, Forum, Circus Maximus, and the Arch of Constantine complete the afternoon of our first day. Day two offers the Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museum, St Peter’s Basilica, with masterpieces of Michelangelo, Perugino, and Botticelli. Enjoy another pleasant dinner together.

21-23 September - MATERA

Follow the Apennine Mountains through Montecassino, with a stop in the Avellino region for a winetasting of the famous Taurasi wines and lunch. Continuing to Matera for 2 nights. Our days feature learning about the Sassi district, a large ravine filled with prehistoric cave dwellings and churches dug into the soft limestone. People lived in this area until the 1950’s when they were relocated. There will be some free time to explore on your own as well as a tour.

23-28 September - OSTUNI

Now in the heart of Puglia, with Ostuni as our base, we are ready to dig in. We visit AItamura with its traditional brick oven baked bread to get in touch with the slow foods of Italy. Alberobello, with its conical roofed house are UNESCO World Heritage Site we include. Lecce, Bari, and Polignano a Mare provide opportunities for an olive farm visit, shopping, wineries, pottery artists, and a cooking class. The medieval streets of Bari, Baroque architecture of Lecce, limestone cliffs above the crystal waters of the Adriatic in Polignano a Mare, dazzle you with a kaleidoscope of views, alluring glimpses, and playful perspectives. Our final night we celebrate before we awaken from this dream.

28 September - DEPARTURES

Say ciao to the fun, flavors, and friends of Italia. A single morning group transfer to Bari airport provided.
